Music Department
Jefferson Performing Arts offers opportunities for all students to learn, perform and grow through music. Whether you’re just beginning or have years of experience, Jefferson’s programs in band, choir, orchestra and jazz help students build confidence, teamwork and creativity both on and off the stage.
Band
Jefferson’s Band Program offers a pathway for every level of musician, from beginners to advanced performers. Students develop instrumental skills, perform in concerts and represent Jefferson at festivals throughout the year.
Class Levels:

Beginning Band – No experience required; learn the basics of instrumental music.

2nd Year Band – Build on your skills and play more challenging music.

3rd Year Band – Perform high school-level literature and represent Jefferson at events.
Performances:
- Up to 4 concerts per year
- ISSMA Concert Festival (consistent gold ratings)
- Veterans Day Program & school pep assemblies
Jazz at Jefferson
Jazz is an exciting extension of the band program.

Jazz Club – After-school club for 7th/8th graders with no prior jazz experience.

Jazz Band – Class period for students with jazz experience. Both groups perform at local jazz festivals and earned a Gold Rating at ISSMA Jazz Festival (2024).
Orchestra
Jefferson’s Orchestra Program welcomes students of all skill levels to explore string instruments and ensemble performance.
Class Levels:
- Beginning Orchestra (6th Grade)
- 2nd Year Orchestra
- Advanced Orchestra
Performances:
- Up to 4 concerts per year
- ISSMA Concert Festival (consistent gold ratings)

Concert Choir (advanced)
Concert Choir has earned gold ratings at ISSMA (2023 & 2024) and performs quarterly concerts at the Pearl Arts Center. Choir members also share their music in the community such as visits to local nursing homes during the holidays.
Show Choir

Audition-based, open to 7th & 8th graders

Non-competitive and growing!

Performs at the Northrop Show Choir Festival and ISSMA in the spring

Rehearses after school once a week
